Toxic gases, such as oxides of carbon may be released during combustion. The substance, as shipped, does not pose any dust explosion hazard. Nevertheless, powder of 75µm or less may pose dust explosion hazard if particular conditions are present, such as ignition sources, sparks. Foam, water spray, dry chem may be used for fire extinguishment. Surroundings exposed to intense heat deriving from fire should be kept cool with water to prevent fire spreading. Remove other combustible materials from fire area if possible. Stay upwind, keep out of low areas. Wear goggles and a positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective equipment.
SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
6.1. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES: In case of accidental release do not walk on the contaminated area and avoid any contact and further spread of the substance. Avoid dispersion caused by wind. Keep non trained personnel away from the area where the accidental release took place. Remove any flame and ignition source. Wear adequate clothing to proceed to cleaning up. Refer to section 8 for personal protection. Avoid dispersion of substances in drains, surface and ground water. For small spill: Use normal good housekeeping procedures for clean-up of substance trying to avoid dust formation and dispersion. For large spill: use mechanical equipment, such as a shovel. Try to avoid dust formation and dispersion. Place into drums or other suitable container for disposal. Flush with water or vacuum-clean the contaminated area after removal of substance. Substance is water soluble: if a large quantity of substance is accidentally released in water inform authorities.
SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE
7.1. PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING:
Electrically bond & ground all containers, if relevant, and equipment before transfer or use of substance. Handle in well-ventilated areas. Avoid dust generation and deposition. In case of dust generation be equipped with approved dust mask. Do not breath dust. Do not eat, drink and smoke in the areas where material is stored, handled, processed. Personnel handling the material should wash hands before eating, drinking and smoking. 7.2. CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 AZELAIC ACID

Ensure that bags, drums or other container are not damaged and are well closed. Store in cool (below 50°C), dry, well-ventilated, area away from heat sources, flame, spark sources, moisture, acid, alkaline or oxidizing materials. SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
8.1. CONTROL PARAMETERES:
Good industrial hygiene should be adopted. Provide general and/or local exhaust ventilation. Avoid inhalation of dust by installing a local aspiration where relevant in the equipment or wear respiratory protection (see below). Provide flowing water and eye washing equipment. Wear suitable industrial clothing depending on the kind of processing in order to avoid skin contact. Wear approved protection gloves, according to EN 374 and EN 388, depending on the kind of processing/manipulation. If dust generation occurs, use approved dust mask European Classification Filter, P1, P2, P3 depending on dust particle size. SECTION 9: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

SECTION 10: STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
10.1. REACTIVITY:
Reacts with strong oxidizing agents, bases and strong acids Not expected in normal storage and use conditions Flames, ignition sources, excessive heat. Strong oxidizing agents, bases and strong acids. SECTION 11: TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

11.1. INFORMATION ON TOXICOLOGICAL EFFECTS:
read across with OTTANOIC ACID (CAS 124-07-2) read across with OTTANOIC ACID (CAS 124-07-2) LC50 INHALATION, RAT > 0.1621 mg/L air read across with STARIC ACID (CAS 57-11-4) AZELAIC ACID is not skin irritating at concentrations up to 50% in a guinea pig test according to OECD 406. The liquid analogue FATTY ACIDS, C8-C10 (CAS 68937-75-7) is skin irritating in a rabbit test according to OECD 404 (degree of purity > 99.5%). Based on above results, AZELAIC ACID is classified as skin irritant in concentrations above 50%. Rabbit study on the analogue: C10: 96.6 %; C12: 2.6 %; C8: 0.8 %, shows corneal opacity and moderate conjunctivitis which do not subside within 72 h. Based on above results, AZELAIC ACID is classified as eye irritant. REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 AZELAIC ACID

SKIN: AZELAIC ACID is not sensitizing in the guinea pig test according to OECD 406 at concentrations up to 50%. Also studies on analogues do not show sensitizing phenomena. No data available on germ cells. Experimental tests conduced on analogues show negative results in bacteria reverse mutation on S. typhimurium and genetic mutation and chromosome aberration tests on mammalian cells. No in vivo available experiments. In vitro experimental tests conduced on analogues show negative results in bacteria reverse mutation on S. typhimurium and genetic mutation and chromosome aberration tests on mammalian cells. DOCOSANOIC ACID (CAS 112-85-6) analogue does not show any adverse effects on rats maternal and foetal development at the maximum dose (1000 mg/kg bw) according to OECD 422. SECTION 12: ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
12.1. TOXICITY :
Based on the Log Kow (PARTITION COEFFICIENT N-OCTANOL/WATER) of 1,57 the BCF (BIOCONCENTRATION FACTOR) of 3,162 can be estimated (BCFWINNT v.2.15). Therefore, Bioaccumulation potential is low. AZELAIC ACID has a pKa (DISSOCIATION CONSTANTS OF ORGANIC ACIDS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION) of 4.53, hence, for soil pH values between 5 and 9 it will be mostly ionized with a preferred partition into water. Moreover, the estimation of Koc (ORGANIC CARBON ADSORPTION COEFFICIENT) form Pow show a low adsorption potential to soil. Based on the available information AZELAIC ACID does not respond to PBT and vPvB classification criteria. SECTION 13: DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
