The committee held it’s first meeting earlier this week in Valdosta, GA. Wendy Burnett of SLMA was invited to tell committee members about the Southern Pine Awareness Network. “The committee was very interested in the work SPAN is doing,” says Burnett. “They have asked for a progress report on our activities at the end of the year and seemed interested in working with SPAN as part of their recommended solution.” SLMA will keep you posted as developments with the committee occur. Completed registration forms can be faxed to (404) 361-5963 or mailed to P.O. Box 1788, Forest Park, GA 30298. If paying by credit card, please write cardholder’s name as it appears on the card, card number, expiration date and billing address anywhere on the registration form (there is no specific space for this info on the form). Online registration is also available. If you’ve tried to log on to www.slma.org to register in the last few days, you probably were not able to access the Members or Registration pages. SLMA’s web consultants are in the process of fixing this problem, and we expect the site to be fully functional (with the ability to accept credit cards) by Monday morning, June 20th. Hotel registration forms should be faxed to the Park Hyatt directly at (970) 827-6793. Be sure to make reservations by July 8th in order to receive SLMA’s discount room rate. Please keep in mind that the Park Hyatt sits at an elevation of 8100 feet. Be aware that you may experience what is commonly known as “Altitude Illness.” Altitude illness is the result of our bodies not adapting well to having less oxygen at high altitudes. Symptoms include headache, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, lack of sleep and dizziness. While altitude illness is not serious and lessens as your body adapts to the higher elevation, some may be more comfortable talking to their doctors about taking the prescription drug Diamox (acetazolamide) to reduce symptoms. Be sure to talk to your doctor prior to the conference if concerned. Welcome New SPAN Member! SPAN - the Southern Pine Awareness Network - welcomes its newest Allied Industry Partner, Robert Elliott Trucking. RE Trucking is the latest company to join the industry effort to increase awareness of Southern Pine as a leading building material among consumers throughout the Southeast. Call the SLMA office or email wendy@slma.org to learn how you can help support the SPAN effort. 2005 Congressional Directories Available SLMA has a limited supply of pocket-sized 2005 Congressional Directories available for its members.
